Default Why won't they invite me?

Hi everone \o
I am new to Guild wars, coming here after playing AOC.

What I am not understanding is whenever I am in a town, there are many people there running around with a thing over their heads saying that they have a group of 2 or 3 but whatever I do I cannot get them to invite me to their group.
Is everybody in the game so antisocial?

It could be for many reasons.

1) People generally don't group unless they have to. The entire game can be beaten with just heroes and henchmen, so if you're just trying to get a group for the sake of having other people to go around and do random quests, it's not going to work.

2) You might be too low leved for people to take you seriously.

3) Number 1 rule for grouping: Unless you know the person, theres a 99.99% chance that that person is a complete idiot. I don't like having to redo missions because people are too stupid to understand a simple instruction.

If you want to play with other people/need to get orientated, join a decent guild (look through the guild forums on Guru and find one that appeals) and they should answer your questions and help out when you need it.

well you have to ask yourself where are you and why?

there are so many different things to do in the game it's unlikely you'll be in the same outpost for the same reason.
unless it's a mission outpost but then, as stated above, ppl play with friends or heroes.

I can see how it could appear that way

Many of the players you see are not forming parties its just the heroes they used last.
Before heroes all players that logged into the game were alone but heroes persist and I usually forget I have them with me.

Best way is to use the chat channels they are set up to trade and find parties.
You could also announce yourself in the right channel as looking for a party.

I see.

Things are very different to what I am use to, but I will get the hang of it eventually.
Overall I would say that the gaming community in Guild wars is mainly friendly, which I find important. I just could not figure out why I was not getting invited or what it was I was doing wrong.

Best thing you could do as a new player who doesn't want to use only Hero's/Henchmen is trying to get in a beginner-friendly guild. It will help you understand the game, what to do where and when and most of all; you'll have some friendly and nice people around you that won't judge you for being a newbie. If you want to join a random group you will be most likely get snobbed by players that have far more experience.

Not being able to invite them will probably point that they are full, so there is no room for you.
If they are rejecting you, it can have multiple reasons.
My main reason I click away people if they invite me, is most people that do that (no offence) aren't so well known with the game, and mostly have failing builds. I prefer my heroes and henchman then, that listen to what I say.
Secondly the goal can be different. Sometimes people ask me to help with the mission or quest, but I'm about to do it in HM or going to vanquish the area near it.
Don't feel dumped, you'll get the hang of it.

+ exactly what Faure said. Its not rare people are snobbie and are going to shout bad things at you. And to prevent you from getting agro of those people, only attack what they attack. Never walk on from, never last person, just stay in the middle so it's never your folt You better not get agro of some people as after your group failed, he is going to waste an hour of his life spamming <Name> is a noob, dont invite him! shouting in the outpost. Specially in alliance battles, some people have blacklists

Good luck in Guild Wars!

Like Marty said I just use heroes because I hate having to redo easy things because of people being incompetant. I even remember a while ago when heroes were first introduced people were using them in ab and it was basically just one person and 3 heroes per group. They removed them shortly after of course. But the point is that people don't really group unless they have to.
Getting into a close guild can make things more enjoyable and you can get people to come along then.

Thank you for all of your replys, I now know what is going on and why.

My first day, I think, I was invited twice so you can see why I was a little baffled at not receiving any more invites to group.
In the future if I don't receive any invite I will just make up my own group of henchpeople and get on with it.

I must have wasted hours of game time by standing around waiting for invites.

Well just like you can solo AoC all the way to 80, you can get far in this game using just heroes

join a guild (worked for me) they'll help you with missions if really stuck.
Henchies can do the trick to
Use the chat (LFP "name of the mission")
Check what district you are playing in.... if there is almost nobody your chances will be reduced. (left top corner)

Usually if someone asks for help for a mission i've already done i accept, so i expect there are many who do the same.
Continue to level you char... the higher it is, the more chance they will accept. Check for good pve builds on various forums (www.pvxwiki.com) and learn to use it.
grtz

That's impossible until you get further along in the game.

Be proactive, start your own group of people. Invite them! ask around to see if anyone is doing what your doing. Find someelse who is as new as you are and go traveling with them, odds are they will know about as much as you so you can laern together rather than ebing dragged along by more experianced players.

Also like its been mentioned, find a good guild who don't mind you being new and start building up your friends list. It's always good to have a list of people who you can PM and just say "I'm going to do this, do you need it?"

If you ever need help in the game feel free to ask mein game 'neyway.

THey aren't inviting you for the same reason you don't invite people too...
-> there is no reason you don't invite people yourself.

Also make use of the party window. Advertise yourself as What class you are playing and what mission/quest you want to do. You can also send a join request to other people looking for the same missions.

Random invites are usually bad. Since there are multiple reasons to form a party in ALL locations, make sure people know what you want to do and that you want to do it with other people. Using local chat and the Party Search feature let you tell other people what you want, and if they want the same thing, they can find you easier. So if you are in a mission outpost, but want to do a quest near there, not the mission, and I am there wanting to do the mission, we wouldn't want to join up with each other.

Communication is key, and it sounds like you are just WAITING. If you are doing more than that, I apologize, but it sounds like you are expecting people to invite you without talking to you first. YOU can easily talk first by telling people you want to join a group and why you want to join that group.

Ha-ha, no, I did the lfg thing and sent people a whisper, I even resorted to /pickme in front of them, but to no avail.
Now that it has been explained to me that most people prefer to quest alone or with their hero's, it all makes perfect sense.
